Netherlands Reformed Congregation minster Rev. John Spaans has died after collapsing in downtown Norwich last week.
Rev. Spaans died Monday, just after noon, as a result of complications from a blood clot in his brain.
The 79-year-old man collapsed early last Wednesday afternoon and was unresponsive in hospital until Friday morning shortly after 4 a. m. On Friday afternoon Spaans was taken to London for testing. He was in critical but stable condition. He had surgery early Sunday.
Spaans served as minister for the church for almost 25 years, he would have marked his 25th anniversary with a special service in less than a month.
Visitation is today (Wednesday) from 2 to 4 p. m. and 7 to 9 p. m. at Rehoboth Christian School auditorium. The funeral is Thursday at 2 p. m. at Netherlands Reformed Congregation Church.
